The Legal Document You Will Not Read, Now With An Unsolicited Opinion From Our Opinion Editor
By accessing The Paris Fool, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please close this tab, return to what you were doing before, and pretend this never happened. We will extend the same courtesy. This agreement is binding in the Republic of France and in the part of the internet that France considers its jurisdiction, which is expanding.
Nature Of The Content
The Paris Fool publishes satire. Articles are works of comedy, exaggeration, and parody. Quotes from named public figures are invented unless explicitly sourced at the bottom of the piece. Officials, agencies, statistics, and minor bureaucratic sub-committees mentioned in articles may not exist. The exception is anything that says SOURCE and links to a real outlet. That part is real. The rest is what we do.
Permitted Use
You may read, share, link to, and quote our work, with attribution and a link back to the original article. You may not republish entire articles without permission. You may not feed our work into a machine that will then claim to have written it. You may print articles and affix them to your refrigerator. We encourage this. We consider it a form of curation.
User Conduct
If we enable comments, you agree not to post anything illegal, defamatory, harassing, or boring. Boring is the most enforced rule. We reserve the right to remove anything that violates these terms or that we simply do not wish to read before 10am. This is not a public square. It is a privately operated balcony above a boulangerie, and we own the railing, though the boulangerie disputes this.
Intellectual Property
All original content on The Paris Fool is copyright the publisher. Trademarks and brand names mentioned appear under fair use for commentary and parody. If you believe we have infringed your copyright, see our DMCA page. If you believe we have simply been rude about your brand, that is satire, and you are welcome to be rude about ours in return.
A Note From Sebastien Loup, Opinion Editor
“I have been asked to contribute an opinion to these Terms of Use. I find this request irregular and the framing bureaucratic. My opinion is as follows: terms of use documents are the dark matter of the internet — vast, invisible, shaping everything, understood by no one. The Paris Fool’s terms are shorter than most. This is my opinion. I will not be taking follow-up questions. I am returning to my notes.” — Sebastien Loup, Opinion Editor. His first published opinion since 2019. He is aware. He regards it as a concession.
Disclaimers
The site is provided as is. We make no warranties about accuracy, suitability, or whether reading our work will improve your French, though Anouk Vermeil maintains that it will, and she has been in Paris longer than most. See our full Disclaimer for the extended version.
Governing Law
These terms are governed by French law. Disputes are to be resolved in the courts of Paris, where proceedings will be conducted in French, lunch will be respected, and the outcome will be philosophically interesting regardless of the verdict.
